| The Kalama River holds fish year around and consistently has strong runs of both salmon and steelhead. |
| Spring Chinook fishing takes place April through June and these fish are aggressive biters that average 12 - 25 pounds with the occasional beast over 30 pounds! |
| Summer Steelhead starts up in May and fishes well into the fall depending on water flows and which section of the river is fished. |
| Winter Steelhead start arriving in good numbers in November and fish well into March. The early season fish arriving in November through January are typically hatchery fish. Starting in January and continuing into March the large native steelhead and broodstock steelhead show up. |
| Chinook and Silver salmon arrive in force in September, October and early November! There are thousands of salmon in the river at this time and if you didn't know it you would think you were in Alaska by the huge numbers of naturally spawning salmon that arrive in the fall! |
| The Kalama is a medium sized river by NW standards, is wadeable and holds abundant classic steelhead and salmon runs and pools. Both gear anglers and fly fisherman enjoy this river for its quiet solitude, void of jet boats. Weekdays anglers often have large sections of the river to themselves. Whether fishing in the fly fishing only water, hiking into the canyon or enjoying the drift from the Red Barn to Modrow Bridge, the Kalama River is a special place. The Kalama offers unique beauty and fishing that will stay with you a lifetime.  |
